Short-term letting of apartments within strata schemes during the COVID-19 pandemic poses a major risk to the health and safety of owners and established resident tenants. OCN wrote to NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard requesting urgent action to modify the government’s Public Health Orders to address this critical issue.

Among the points raised by OCN was an inability for strata owners and strata corporations to manage and mitigate the activities of those transient guests occupying apartments rented out through Airbnb and similar platforms.

The state government pushing the pause button on the Code of Conduct for short term letting until after the pandemic has heightened the risks to public health not only within strata communities but more broadly, as has been seen in infection hotspots in Sydney’s beachside holiday suburbs.
