The COVID-19 pandemic poses unique threats to the health, wellbeing and financial stability of Strata communities. However, the NSW Government emergency legislation did not make provision for the approximately 1.2 million people living in strata.

OCN wrote to the NSW Minister for Better Regulation, Kevin Anderson, urging the government to act immediately to address major risks being experienced in the sector.

These risks include Public Health Orders that do not apply to the common areas of strata schemes and a pause on bringing the Short-Term Letting legislation into effect.

This deficit in regulations exposes strata residents to increased and unacceptable infection risk at a time when the financial impacts of job losses are also adding to the burden faced by strata communities.
